to do this with Charon. I have just been working with him yesterday so I still feel very much in-character with him. This could be interesting. Since he is one of my already most fleshed-out characters I won't even have to invent much on the spot. It could still happen though that some details I write here might change in future stories.
1) Family matters: Charon's father once had been a commanding officer at the Dark Legion. Mostly thanks to his drill from childhood on Charon turned into a soldier worthy to soon join the elite force. His father was one of the many people to later perish in the egg grape chambers. His mother he hadn't seen anymore since he was 10. He hopes she is alive and well in the Twilight Zone. He has no biological siblings but he sees Kaya-Na as his little sister.
2) Elite: Being a loyal soldier and great fighter he soon was considered to be qualified for the Legion's elite force. At first he was proud but after just a short while he regretted it. His new and still untested cybernetics - replacement of the majority of his skin to form an exo skeleton - felt heavy and were hard to control. Soon he became the laughing stock for nearly the whole elite team. Being a really quiet person and also one of the youngest members of the team didn't really help when he had to deal with loud-mouthed veterans. At this time he also learned to know Kaya-Na - still a child in training back then. She helped him in a lot of matters, not only in how to train his new cybernetics but she also was the first person he could really pour his heart out to. With new self-confidence and better control over his cybernetics he was able to regain his status as worthy elite. At the current time due to wars and the near eradication of Echidna kind there are only two members of the original elite team left alive.
3) A complicated "condition": During his teenage years Charon barely noticed how little interest he had in females. His training and performance on the battlefield were of more importance. The closer he got to adulthood however the more he realised that something about him was different - and it frightened him. Homosexuality was nothing that found a lot of acceptance in the Dark Legion. Should anyone find out he would have been frowned upon, despised, seen as a freak of nature. He tried to force himself into relationships that were normal in his eyes but it only ended in awkwardness and never lasted long. Kaya-Na was the first he had the courage to tell about it but despite his fears she didn't turn away from him but rather encouraged him to accept himself as he was. Once he called it a "defect" but after he learned to accept it it's just "his condition" to him.
4) Sometimes the soultouch is just a bitch: Among the elite team there was one other member about the same age as Charon - Xenin - who despite being the joker of the team did not laugh at him. If anything he sometimes supported him in his training (though not as much and effectively as Kaya). Due to that Xenin was the first team mate he started talking to and became friends with. Their friendship became under threat though when Charon's feelings developed into something more. It wasn't threatened on Xenin's side at all - Xenin still has no idea about it and sees Charon as his friend to this very day - but Charon unconsciously drew a gap between them. They drifted apart for a few years before they finally started to be on missions together again but not even distance could completely erase his feelings. Beside all that completely breaking off their friendship is the least Charon wants to do.
5) What am I even fighting for: The Dark Legion had fought for many things. Their right to use certain technoligies, their freedom away from the Twilight Zone, their independence from Echidnaopolis. Serving under a couple of Grandmasters - Kragok, Dimitri, Moritori - Charon had always simply believed in their cause and that he was fighting for the greater good. With Lien-Da's politics to rather make allies among the other Echidnas than enemies however he started to think. The people of Echidnaopolis, heck, even the Guardians used the once forbidden technologies, there already were former Legionnaires peacefully living among the other Echidnas, in fact there wasn't so much difference between the two enemy parties at all. He now saw them as allies too. Should ever another civil war between Echidnas happen he would feel really conflicted - there was no way he would betray his friends but he also wouldn't be able to raise his weapons against a former ally.
6) Iskander who?: There is something like an on-and-off-friendship between the two of them. Once he just knew Iskander as "that dude Xenin has to share a room with". But thanks to often hanging out with Xenin - that also included his room - he also started to talk to Iskander once in a while. And after some time Charon and Iskander started hanging out together as well. The two however are like fire and ice. What Charon sometimes was lacking in self-confidence Iskander had three times too much, while Iskander is really easy-going, an air-head and often doesn't take things too seriously Charon takes his duties too seriously and spends too much time reflecting on things. Sometimes Charon just feels annoyed by Iskander but sometimes he also just needs people who can break him out of his shell, just joke around and show him that he can't take life so completely serious all the time. He can't live with him, but he also can't live without him.
7) Siblings at heart: Kaya-Na on the other hand he truly loves (in a fraternal way). Her optimism often gave him the uplift he needed while his grounded personality kept her from lifting off too far with ideas, fantasies, certain relationships or whatever could go too crazy too fast. She was always there when he needed someone to talk to and in return he hardly left her side during the time she was grieving for Iskander when he was believed to be dead.
8) The sounds of silence: His quietness doesn't necessarily mean that he is shy. It more has something to do with his upbringing and training. Rather listen than talk, follow orders rather than questioning them, think about what you are saying before you say it out loud. Due to that when he is not around friends he often only talks when it's necessary and in conversations before he gets the chance to thoroughly think what he wants to say over the conversation topic might already have changed to something different. He also has a reason to stay quiet about certain topics - like when asked about relationships.
I don't really want to tag anyone, mostly because I don't want to bother people. Instead I will give an additional author's note fact.
9) Author's note: Born to die: Charon originally was just a name with no real character behind it. I needed a throwaway puppet for a story, just another additional soldier so it wouldn't look so empty. There also had been other throwaway characters in that same story whose names I can't even remember anymore right now. But for some reason this one guy stuck with me. I suddenly felt like having him in memes, then he was back as another side character in a story. Over time he had more character development than my planned OCs. The sturdy exo-skeleton I gave him when he started appearing as a side-character again kind of had a symbolic reason - this guy won't die easy.
